2019 Kia Rio 5-Door vs Volkswagen Golf

2019 Rio 5-Door Gateway Kia Quakertown PA

Kia describes the 2019 Rio 5-Door as having a bold new style wrapped in a smart, sporty package. Meeting that description, the Rio was built lower and longer, and with broader proportions to give it a powerful looking stance. Kia offers the 2019 Rio as a sedan or a 4-door Hatchback. If you are looking for Kia dealers in PA, then you can see the newly designed Rio 5-Door up close. It’s fitted with a 1.6L inline 4-cylinder engine, front wheel drive, and a 6-speed shiftable automatic transmission.

Gateway Kia Quakertown decided to match the Rio to the 2019 Volkswagen Golf. The VW is offered in several submodels, but for this review, we’ve chosen the submodel 1.4L S 4-cylinder Turbo, which surprisingly generates less horsepower than last year’s model fitted with a larger engine. Like the Rio, the Volkswagen Golf comes with front-wheel drive but has an 8-speed shiftable automatic transmission and the option of a 6-speed manual transmission.

2019 Kia Rio 5-Door: Our leading sporty hatchback.

For 2019, Kia was sure to re-think the interior so it presents itself over models priced thousands more. So, the inside of the Rio 5-Door is upgraded from last year, but it continues to feel upscale and solidly built. Kia also redesigned the dash and gauge cluster, and even though it’s a conservatively priced car, the Rio doesn’t feel inexpensive. On the other hand, the Volkswagen Golf lacks the rich features of the Rio and its interior greatly needs some polish compared to our rival hatchback.

Lastly, the cargo capacity of our Rio is slightly lower than the Volkswagen Golf. Most drivers in Quakertown PA who are looking for a compact car, tend to look at the cargo capacity. They may have a larger family that requires additional space for food shopping, or they may have a hobby where materials and tools are transported to and from a location. Kia dealers in PA will show you both cars offer a standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat. This allows plenty of passenger and cargo combinations for any situation. So, the small cargo difference between these two models may not be an issue for the average Quakertown PA driver.

Matching up the Kia 2019 Rio 5-Door to the Volkswagen Golf wasn’t easy because both cars offer many perks. However, we find the Rio has attractive features and technology the Golf does not offer. If you want to see the Rio yourself, then head over to Gateway Kia in Quakertown PA. We have highly trained staff who will answer your questions and help you choose the best car for you.
